Documentary, finally puts light on the little-known story of James G. McDonald, a hero of the 20th Century’s darkest days. McDonald spoke up when others were silent. After hearing Hitler’s plans for the Jews in a face-to-face meeting on April 8, 1933, McDonald felt a calling to save the Jews of Germany. As League of Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and in other official and unofficial roles, he worked tirelessly to find safe havens for Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi Germany before and during the Holocaust. McDonald recorded his extraordinary efforts in a recently discovered diary that are as relevant today as they were 75 years ago. In 1948 President Truman appointed McDonald as the first U.S. Ambassador to Israel.
