Jewish Women in American Sport: Settlement Houses to Olympic Stadiums is a first-of-its-kind half-hour documentary that defies the stereotypes and captures the historical legacy Jewish women have established in shaping American sport.
Movie tells the vital role Jewish women have played as athletes, administrators and activists from the settlement houses in the 1880s into the 21 st Century, confronting ethnic and gender constraints, and changing American society.
Charlotte Epstein, Senda Berenson, Lillian Copeland, Sybil Koff, Elaine Rosenthal Reinhardt, Amy Alcott and Sarah Hughes are among the Jewish sportswomen setting the standards for American Jewish and non-Jewish women in sport from access to facilities and professional ranks to competing in the Olympics and the Maccabiah, the Jewish Olympics. This compelling film contributes to American history, Jewish history, Sport history and Women’s Gender and Ethnic history.
